How to help your family member to get a job

  1. Encourage your son or daughter to work as soon as possible. Nothing prepares for future work, better than present work.
  2. Encourage full participation in high school work experiences.
  3. Develop a work vision early so that the school can get in on the act early with the goals encapsulated within the IEP.
  4. If specific credentials are required to secure employment – research the training facility that has the best reputation (not for people with disabilities) – but the best reputation in turning out skilled graduates who get jobs. Approach that facility and see what needs to happen for your son or daughter to attend.
