In any situation where you’re advocating for change people tend to respond better to "I would like this" rather than "I don’t like what I’m getting and I want you to fix it." In other words, tell the school, agency, consultant, facilitator, etc. not just what you don’t like but what you would prefer in its place. You might be surprised by the positive reception you receive when you can paint a picture of what you want for your son or daughter, not just what you don’t want! Many people take messages of "I don’t like this" as criticism of their work. When you indicate what you want instead it focuses people forward to what could be developed that would be better for all concerned.
